Yee Haw. Get ready for the 2nd Bobolink Bonanza on June 1, 2018. This event will take place at Dickinson Cattle Company, located at 35000 Muskrat Road, Barnesville, Ohio. Look for Dickinson Cattle Co. signs near Exit 202 on Interstate 70.
The bobolink is a robin-sized bird that is a species of concern in Ohio. This migratory bird makes its appearance in Ohio between May and July and happens to thrive in the habitat at the Dickinson Cattle Company.
From 8 am to 12 pm, volunteers with the Brooks Bird Club will be on hand to help visitors observe the bobolink, among many other birds. 2018’s event recorded over 30 different bird species at the Dickinson Cattle Company, the largest ranch of its kind in the United States. From noon to 1:30 pm, brief presentations will cover such topics as how to use a birding scope, how to capture wildlife through the camera lens, and how to encourage birding habitat. All of this is free to visitors with the first 50 receiving a free t-shirt. Door Prizes will be given away throughout the day.
The Barnesville 4H Club, Country Sunshiners, will have food available for purchase though the morning and lunch. Or bring a packed lunch and enjoy a meal on the grass by the peacocks. The Longhorns Head to Tail Store will also be open for the day for visitors to get a unique assortment of cattle goods.
If you have never been to the Cattle Company, consider the optional tour offered at 2 pm. The cost for the tour is $12 a person. RSVPs for the tour are requested by May 31 to 740-758-5050.
The Bobolink Bonanza is brought to you by Belmont Soil and Water Conservation District and its volunteers, Dickinson Cattle Company, and Brooks Bird Club.
